Job Summary:

At the City of Toronto, Museum Coordinators support museum operations, staff, and the public to ensure the success of the City's network of municipal museums.
The Museum Coordinator will embrace and support the work of Toronto History Museums, utilizing storytelling to connect people through art, creativity, culture, and innovation.
This role is grounded in advancing commitment to City of Toronto key strategic frameworks: Indigenous Reconciliation, decolonisation, Anti-Oppression, Anti-Racism, Anti-Black Racism and equity and diversity.
The Museum Coordinator at Todmorden Mills is responsible for handling theatre rentals and gallery exhibits as well as partnership development, program development and building inclusive community connections.
The Museum Coordinator at Mackenzie House is responsible for working with colleagues and partners to deliver a program of museum tours, special events and workshops, and schools programming.
Major Responsibilities:
- Oversees day to day museum operation, provides staff direction, strategic planning, development and coordination of programs for clients and the community.
- Identifies community visitor trends. Conducts the analysis of policies and procedures, develops and initiates plans to ensure effective operational planning and service delivery.
- Recruits, selects, trains and monitors service delivery of part-time Recreation staff.
- Develops and implements service delivery standards, fiscal management strategies, and sound financial management emphasizing internal control to meet the needs of visitors and to achieve revenue targets.
- Provides input into and administers assigned operating budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled with approved budget and revenues are collected and deposited, in compliance with corporate finance policies and procedures.
- Liaises with various client groups, including teachers, group leaders, volunteer organizations, community partners and outside business partners to promote museum programs.
- Develops and delivers new equitable and inclusive educational and exhibit programs for a variety of client groups in response to changing community needs, capacities and assets.
- Maintains records related to budget administration.
- Plans, develops, administers, and supports the evaluation processes and coordinates the museums' existing interpretive services and other public services.
- Participates in the planning and completion of grant applications and budget reports.
- Improves operational performance through evaluating expenditures and attendance figures and adjusts operations accordingly.
- Evaluates visitor and community needs and coordinates on-site response.
- Ensures compliance with security and health and safety matters.
- Communicates with a variety of visitor groups and liaises with stakeholders.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of marketing activities for the Museum.
- Develops and implements strategies to involve equity deserving and under-served communities in the museums.
- Researches and prepares fundraising and sponsorship opportunities for major cultural events and initiatives as directed by the Museum Administrator in liaison with the Sponsorship team.
- Ensures the mission and mandate of the museum are met.
- Develops a long-term plan for the facility in accordance with the Division's strategic plan.
- Prepares promotional materials for marketing the museum and other special projects eg. Doors Open Toronto.
- Identifies, nurtures and administers community partnerships to ensure that cultural diversity of the city is celebrated the programs.
- Participates in outreach programming and promotion of museum programs and events.
Key Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Museum Studies, History, Arts Administration, Education, or Cultural Site Management, or the approved equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Experience with developing community partnerships that advance equity, inclusion and reconciliation.
- Experience with general museum operations, including the care and security of a historic building, artifacts and health and safety.
- Considerable experience with data in a performance-oriented environment, including evaluating programs, administering program budgets, and tracking and reporting on metrics, such as visitor attendance and revenue.
- Considerable experience coordinating a range of tasks, including programs, events and staffing in a museum or community arts environment.

- Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgement and political acuity in the decision-making process.
- Knowledge of relevant employment legislation, including Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Human Rights and Anti-Harassment/Discrimination Policy, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
