Hiring Policies & Statements

The following policies and statements are applicable to the hiring and recruitment process at the City of Toronto.

The City of Toronto is committed to fostering a positive and progressive workforce reflecting the residents we serve and promoting diversity at all levels in a dynamic and inclusive environment. We provide equitable treatment and accommodation to ensure barrier-free employment in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the City of Toronto’s Accommodation Policy. You can request accommodation related to the protected grounds at any stage of the City’s hiring process, i.e., application, assessment and placement.

If you are an individual who has a disability covered under the Human Rights Code and you require accommodation to apply to a City of Toronto job posting, please send us an email with your accommodation needs at accommodationforapplication@toronto.ca, quoting the job ID # and the job title.

If you are invited to participate in the assessment process and require accommodation for the assessment, we ask that you provide your accommodation request as soon as reasonably practicable. Please be advised that you may be requested to provide verifiable supporting information, such as medical or other documentation depending upon the type of Code-protected accommodation, to People & Equity to ensure that appropriate accommodation is provided to you throughout the hiring process. The City treats all accommodation requests confidentially.  Please see the City’s Accommodation Policy and Accommodation Procedures, which includes an Accommodation Request Form, for more information.

Employment Equity

The City of Toronto is committed to employment equity and encourages applications from Aboriginal people, people with disabilities, members of visible minority groups and women.

The City of Toronto strives to build an inclusive society and providing an accessible environment in which all individuals have access to the City’s services and programs in a way that respects the dignity and independence of people with disabilities.

Read our Aboriginal Employment Strategy for more information on how the City of Toronto is committed to implementing employment practices that ensure that employment opportunities are accessible to Aboriginal people.
