Job Description
To direct maintenance and trades staff in the maintenance and construction of City owned buildings, parks and facilities.
Major Responsibilities:
- Directs and coordinates activities of maintenance and trade staff engaged in the maintenance and general construction of city owned buildings, parks and facilities and ensures work complies to specifications, City By-laws and building code standards.
- Directs contractors in work/alteration related to building maintenance and monitors work of contracts. Inspect work in progress to ensure completion.
- Liaises with Departmental staff regarding the scheduling of new installations and the maintenance of existing facilities. Prepares daily work schedules.
- Performs field inspections of job sites with plans and checks work progress, safety to ensure installations comply with plans and specifications. Liaises with Departmental staff regarding necessary changes to specifications.
- Estimates material and labour required for projects and maintenance programs to provide clients with quotation for budget purposes and prepares requisitions and purchase orders for materials and equipment.
- Responds to emergency maintenance requests for broken or disables services. Determines work required and dispatches staff to job location. Attends site as necessary.
- Maintains material management and inventory control for supplies and material for internal departmental recoveries.
- Schedules work shifts, vacations, maintenance schedules and time sheets.
- Maintains integrity of master key control system for operating departments and facilities.
- Assists with long term planning for construction requirements.
- Investigates and prepares reports and summaries.
- Provides on the job training and instructions to staff and monitors health and safety in the workplace.
- Prepares set-up for special events programs including meeting with groups and provide recommendation, information, equipment and labourforce, etc.
- Attends meetings, liaises and coordinate work with other Department representatives or contractors.
- Prepares requisition forms for materials/supplies.
- Completes employee time cards detailing location and hours worked.
- Responses to inquiries and complaints from staff and the public.
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Considerable experience in directing unionized maintenance/trades staff.
- Considerable experience in coordinating various aspects of minor construction projects.
- Experience using corporate software applications (i.e. MS Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.) and wireless mobile communication devices.
- Experience in implementing all health and safety procedures with particular emphasis in construction field.
- Experience in material management and inventory control for supplies, materials, tools, and equipment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Province of Ontario Driver’s License Class “G” and have the ability to obtain and maintain a City equipment operator’s permit.
You must also have:
- Knowledge of WHMIS, Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulation and procedures in dealing with asbestos.
- Ability to work in a team based environment.
- Highly developed interpersonal, conflict resolution, problem solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work shifts, weekends and overtime, as required.
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
- Ability to qualify and obtain permits to operate lifting devices such as forklift, boom and scissor lift.
- Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
- Ability to work in all kinds of weather conditions.
Police Records Check
It is a condition of employment with the Corporate Real Estate Management Division to pass and maintain a Police Security Clearance for any Toronto Police Services locations.
