Major Responsibilities:

  • Operates and/or performs maintenance and/or repairs and/or inspections of complex storage systems, pumping stations, and water and wastewater systems and appurtenances.
  • Maintains and utilizes water and wastewater related instruments in the Wastewater & Stormwater Pumping Section.
  • Ensures infrastructure is maintained at a predefined level of operation to ensure public health and safety, alleviate public/private property damage and comply with all government guidelines and regulations.
  • Performs inspection, testing, maintenance of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (S.C.A.D.A.), control systems, instrumentation alarms and mechanical equipment.
  • Interacts with water and wastewater customers, the public, contractors, consultants and regulatory government bodies for gathering and disseminating information.
  • Installs, calibrates/tests, reads and repairs metering and mechanical equipment.
  • Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools and equipment associated with water and wastewater operations.
  • Assesses problems and determines resolution to minimize potential damage to public or private property and to eliminate detrimental environmental impact.
  • Inspects, maintains, repairs, cleans moving mechanical components, such as shafts, pumps, valves, screens, etc.
  • Ensures facility and/or appurtenances are operating as designed, utilizing various computer software and hardware.
  • Provides training to staff.
  • Reads field and utility drawings.
  • Plans, schedules and coordinates work, ensuring efficient and timely completion, in a clean and safe manner.
  • Completes and documents work daily in WMS (Works Management System), maintaining accurate records utilizing field data and/or electronic devices.
  • Performs related work as required.

 

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Must possess and be able to maintain a Ministry of Environment Wastewater Collection Class 1 Certificate of Competency
  2. Must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSO) or approved equivalent.
  3. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" license and qualify for the City's drivers' permit.
  4. Considerable experience in the operation, maintenance and installation of water and wastewater services and appurtenances and related tools and equipment.

 

You must also have:

  • Must have knowledge and training in confined space entry, electrical lockout and other
  • Health and Safety procedures and regulations applicable to the above work.
  • Experience providing work direction to others.
  • Experience utilizing and knowledge of a variety of computer applications.
  • Ability to work in confined space and perform duties while utilizing Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (S.C.B.A.).
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems and conflicting situations and determine required course of action.
  • Must have basic mechanical skills and basic knowledge of electrical/electronic components.
  • Must have basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to read field and utility drawings.
  • Ability to communicate courteously with the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to operate various equipment related to the work above.
  • Ability to maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
  • Must be able to work shifts/weekends/standby.
  • Ability to work overtime and call-ins as required.
  • Ability to report to various work sites.
  • Ability to perform duties in a variety of environments.
  • Possession of MOE Wastewater Collection Class 2 Certificate of Competency would be an asset.
