Major Responsibilities: 

  • Performs general maintenance work in the construction, alteration, repair and maintenance of building, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, wooden fixtures, concrete forms, patterns, bridges, cabinet fabrication and framing, plumbing 

  • Performs marine related carpentry work in the construction, alteration, repair and maintenance of boat decks, railings, benches, windows and metal framing, passenger ramps and minor welding repairs 

  • Performs specialized shipbuilding, maintenance, repair techniques and carpentry specific to nautical needs 

  • Performs skilled bench work in a carpentry shop, operating standard carpenters' tools and power-driven woodworking equipment 

  • Erects and works on ladders and scaffolding 

  • Repairs or replaces worn outdoor locks, venetian blinds, awnings, window frames, tables, chairs, benches, cupboards, counters and other wooden equipment 

  • Provides work direction and training to the other staff as required 

  • Communicates related activities verbally and in writing, including the preparation of reports, details of work completed, data logging, etc. 

  • Assignments may be received in the form of verbal or written instructions, rough sketches, diagrams or drawings 

  • Operates a Class "G" rated vehicle 

  • Operates a fork lift truck 

  • Completes reports (e.g., Driver's Collision/Incident Report) related to assigned duties and responsibilities. 

  • Performs work in a safe, efficient and courteous manner. 

  • Performs other related work as assigned 

 

Key Qualifications: 

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to: 

  1. Considerable experience operating and maintaining marine equipment and machinery 

  1. Considerable experience in performing general carpentry and related to vessels, ramps and docks 

  1. Considerable experience in the standard practices, methods, materials and tools of the marine carpentry trade 

  1. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, and be qualified to obtain City equipment operating permits and requirement. 

 

 You must also have: 

  • Ability to give direction and provide training to staff as may be required, and ensure that work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner. 

  • Ability to use and operate the tools and power machines used in the marine carpentry trade. 

  • Ability to accurately follow verbal and written instructions. 

  • Ability to prepare detailed reports, bill of materials, maintain accurate records. 

  • Must be able and qualified to operate a fork lift truck and have knowledge of the Dangerous Goods Handling Act. 

  • Ability to interpret and work from sketches, layouts and blue prints, and to produce sketches and working drawings. 

  • Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing. 

  • Ability to deal courteously with the public. 

  • Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Regulations that apply to this work. 

  • Must be physically capable of performing required duties and must be able to work in all weather conditions. 

  • Must be available to work shift/weekend/overtime as required.
