The City of Toronto's Fleet Services Division (FSD) provides a full range of fleet management services for City Divisions and Agencies. We direct the management of the City’s fleet including the acquisition, maintenance and disposal of assets; along with the City’s industry leading Green Fleet Plan and fuel management infrastructure. Fleet Services directly maintains and repairs 5,500 assets, we have 11,000 operator's with over 1000 vehicles and equipment types. Our vehicles range from Class 1 to Class 8, from simple sedans and pickup trucks, to hydraulic based front end loaders, to specialized ambulances, snow melters and more complex equipment such as a hydro excavators, street sweepers, and garbage collection trucks. The City of Toronto has the largest municipal fleet in Canada and one of the most complex Fleets in North America.

 

Job Summary

 

To prepare end of life assets for disposal, coordinate the deployment of surplus vehicles to be reassign based on condition of the equipment. To prepare heavy and light new assets for service place decals.  To maintain and update the M5 database and record to reflect changes to inventory and cost Centres.

 

Job Responsibilities: 

 

Reporting to the Manager Fleet, the primary functions associated with this position include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Conducts the review of business case requests for vehicles and equipment. Deploys vehicles and/or equipment to the divisions and updates M5 database to reflect changes to divisional cost centres
  • Determines the status of the surplus vehicles for redeployment or disposal, based on physical inspection, road test, review of vehicle/equipment work order file history and costs associated to enable redeployment
  • Documents unit transactions and creates reporting files
  • Frequent interactions with Fleet Services procurement, maintenance and finance group
  • Updates and maintains the M5 database to include redeployment, disposal, repair costs and changes to divisional cost centres
  • Coordinates the disposal of the vehicle and or equipment via the City of Toronto approved auction process
  • Prepares vehicles for auction, which includes but not limited to: detailing, removal of City decals, removal and salvage of custom accessories (i.e. 2-way radio, lighting equipment etc.), charging batteries
  • Notifies management of any recognized potential risks
  • Accepts payments for the auctioned vehicles and equipment
  • Schedules pickup and delivery of vehicles and equipment
  • Assists with but is not limited to receiving, inspecting and installing City decals on new vehicles/equipment
  • Travels to various City of Toronto sites to conduct physical inspections of vehicle and equipment

 

Key Qualifications:

 

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

 

  1. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "DZ" Driver's License and must qualify for the City's equipment operating permits and requirements.
  2. Considerable experience in all aspects of the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
  3. Considerable experience in utilizing a variety of software programs including Microsoft Office.
  4. Considerable experience with the M5 Maintenance System or equivalent E.g. other FMIS.

 

You must also have:

 

  • Project management skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all other standards, codes acts and regulations that apply to this work.
  • Be physically capable of performing the required duties of the position.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of staff and the public.
  • Must be available to work shift/weekend/overtime and on-call duty.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, attentive to details and great follow-up skills.
