Major Responsibilities:
Your primary responsibilities as a Business Intelligence Consultant (BIC) will be varied, but you will be expected to:
- Oversee the development and maintenance of dashboards, reports, data visualizations, and analytics in Microsoft Power BI and Report Builder
- Lead a team in responding to ad hoc information requests and new scheduled reports through sourcing and reporting the highest quality information possible in a timely manner.
- Analyze and interpret quantitative data to provide insights for a variety of Divisional audiences. Lead a team in validating data, building data models, and writing queries (SQL).
- Oversee the development and maintenance of metadata documentation for data constructs, data objects, and information products.
- Develop, implement, and apply sound information management standards, procedures, and tools to provide consistent, accurate, and timely information.
- Identify, prioritize, and develop data products suitable for disclosure or contribution to enterprise open data repositories.
- Lead the development and production of information publications such as annual reports, neighbourhood/ward profiles, etc.
- Liaise with business users and developers to ensure effective communication and training, as well as address data and reporting issues.
- Prepare and deliver reports and data to staff, the public, external agencies, and community organizations.
- Oversee projects and manage staff to facilitate the completion of assigned work and projects. Develop the team's knowledge base and oversee continuous learning required in the Business Intelligence field.
- Apply an equity lens to data analysis and reporting, as well as prioritizing equity, diversity, and inclusion as a people leader and in support of staff / team.
This job call is for two Business Intelligence Consultant positions. While both positions will be required to perform the same major responsibilities, each will be assigned a distinct focus area:
1. Analytic Lead
- Lead and conduct data analysis and interpretation activities
- Lead the development and mobilization of key findings and data insights
2. Report Request Lead
- Lead triaging, business requirements collection, and stakeholder management for ad hoc and scheduled report requests
- Oversee the development, validation, and dissemination of requested data products
These assignments will support operational needs while ensuring consistency in delivering business intelligence functions across the division
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline (e.g., computer science, data management, statistics, data analysis) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Considerable experience in conducting research, extracting data, data analysis, summarizing findings, and preparing reports.
- Considerable experience effectively managing data-related report requests, including interacting with stakeholders to understand data/reporting needs and developing comprehensive business/reporting requirements.
- Considerable experience in one or more of the following:

- Managing data within a relational database environment
- Creating reports, data visualizations, and/or dashboards using Business Intelligence tools/software (e.g., Power BI)
- Leading BI / Data governance projects dealing with data quality, metadata, and business intelligence (analytical data processing strategies, standards, policies, and best practices)
- Demonstrated ability to plan, set priorities, and lead, coach, and motivate staff.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage high-volume workflow, and manage numerous projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills to communicate with technical and business audiences and work with cross-functional teams.
