Major Responsibilities:
- Provides clinical dental preventive services, i.e. topical fluoride application, sealant placement, scaling, polishing and individual oral hygiene instruction
- Conducts dental screenings, maintains records and takes, mounts and screens x-rays
- Assigns clients to specific services based on assessment of their individual dental needs, and advises dentists of complications encountered
- Responsible for following infection control protocols and procedures as per IPAC and TPH guidelines
- Completes documentation for all services provided, including follow-up of children urgently requiring care, the procurement of consent to treatment documentation, maintenance of the defect lists and enrolment of eligible children
- Contacts parents, guardians and teachers to obtain and confirm patient information
- Teaches dental health and prepares teaching aids for dental health instruction in classrooms, day care centres, geriatric institutions and selected community groups, including those with special needs
- Mentors’ dental hygiene students
- Conducts oral assessments in schools or Community Dental Clinics. Consults with families and makes appropriate referrals
- Facilitates groups and distributes educational material, which includes the preparation of articles and pamphlets for community information
- Conducts screening and dental survey of assigned populations annually
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Licensed as a Registered Dental Hygienist by the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (Completed Diploma in Dental Hygiene).
- Considerable experience as a Dental Hygienist in a dental practice.
- Experience working with children and seniors.
You must also have:
- Work experience in a hospital setting is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Abeldent is an asset.
- Proficiency in clinical management of patients.
- Excellent knowledge of the principles and practices of dental hygiene.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present educational programs to the public.
- Ability to work on a multidisciplinary team, with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to give direction and instruction to dental assistants and dental hygiene students.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and general public.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
