As an Engineering Technologist Technician 1, the successful candidate will support the Street Permits section of Transportation Services division in the Utility Management unit.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Administers, prepares, co-ordinates requirements and reviews designs, reports, specifications and any documentation related to construction projects, land development proposals, divisional projects and third-party proposals.
  • Prepares drafts of documents, reports, contracts, specifications and agreements for the Project Manager or Supervisor.
  • Undertakes projects, trains and provides technical direction to staff, such as enters, edits, updates, validates, and analyzes data related to various Transportation projects and programs under the Supervisor, Project Manager or Project Lead.
  • Checks and provides progress/inspection reports on the work of contractors and developers to ensure use of safety equipment, adherence to approved designs, procedures, regulations, statutes, specifications etc., as well as ensures equitable and safe use of the right-of-way and compliance with City policies, design guidelines and other regulations.
  • Conducts field inspections and evaluates condition of facilities and that proper traffic control procedures are in place.
  • Investigates and responds to inquiries from the public, politicians, contractors, other municipalities, businesses, 311, and City staff.
  • Liaises and assists with consultants, contractors, Utility companies, developers, BIAs, elected officials, and City staff.
  • Configures computer files, such as manipulates and retrieves data using Microsoft Excel, Access and GIS applications.
  • Develops, maintains and monitors programs and systems, such as ArcGIS, RACS and/or TMM.
  • Performs and/or reviews research and calculations and analyzes technical data, such as programs, operates and maintains a variety of mechanical, digital, analogue, wireless, computerized and other equipment and systems in performing surveys, draughting, calculations, diagnostics, repairs, studies, etc.
  • Prepares training materials and conducts training courses and demonstrations.
  • Prepares, reads and interprets technical drawings and utility applications (i.e. survey plans, structures, equipment, utility plant locations, roadways, etc.).

 

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. University degree or a college diploma from a recognized institution in Civil or Transportation engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Considerable experience in reading, interpreting and reviewing engineering utility design drawings.
  3. Considerable experience with administering, preparing, coordinating requirements and reviewing designs, reports, specifications and any documentation related to construction projects, land development proposals, divisional projects and third-party proposals.
  4. Experience in engineering technology, specifically in the principles and practices of traffic engineering, civil engineering and/or transportation engineering.
  5. Must possess and maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” Driver’s licence and the ability to obtain the City’s Driver’s permit.
