Reporting to the Supervisor, Property Services, you will be overseeing Building Services at various shelter locations in the City of Toronto. In this role, you will be responsible for the daily coordination of Heavy-Duty Cleaners and outside contractors.
Major Responsibilities:
- Plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of employees engaged in the cleaning and Maintenance of City of Toronto shelter locations.
- Plans and organizes cleaning work routines and procedures. Adhere to strict security protocols and confidentiality requirements.
- Ensures uninterrupted service delivery to City shelter locations by overseeing preventive maintenance for general repairs/replacement of equipment and systems
- Patrols and inspects the condition of the facility and the progress of work to ensure security and that work is completed on schedule
- Ensures that all work performed is in compliance with all legislative regulations, including WHMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Ensures that all work performed is in compliance with Divisional Policies, including TSSS IPAC Manual, TSSS Housekeeping Manual
- Ensures facilities remain in compliance with applicable codes and regulations (TSSA, ESA, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Toronto Shelter Standards, etc.)
- Inspects equipment and inventory on a scheduled basis
- Provides timely delivery of services
- Prepares and submits daily timesheets and attendance records
- Prepares material requisition forms for orders of cleaning supplies and other operational equipment. Contacts suppliers as required. Maintains a stock of cleaning supplies and necessary equipment
- Trains staff on operational requirements and housekeeping techniques, and proper operation of equipment
- Works with staff to keep the building/facility safe and secure
- Monitors and evaluates the work of outside contractors
- Monitors the condition and operation of the building/facility, documents any defects, and organizes repairs
- Organizes the setting up, moving, and taking down of furniture, chairs, etc., for various staff and client functions
- Ensures client furnishings are kept in a good state of repair
- Monitors building systems and responds to problems
- Responds to maintenance inquiries and requests from City Staff, ensuring regular updates are provided
- Assist with seasonal tasks like snow removal, salting, landscaping, and other weather-related property up keep
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Considerable experience and understanding of Plumbing, Mechanical/ Electrical systems, HVAC, Fire and Life Safety, and Building Automation systems
- Experience in directing and leading unionized custodial staff.
- Experience in custodial or caretaking work adhering to security and safety protocols while using related custodial equipment and materials
- Experience in implementing all health and safety procedures with particular emphasis on the custodial/caretaking profession.
- Experience with computer applications (MS Word, MS Excel, and other computer software applications).
You must also have:
- Ability to coordinate, direct, lead and work with contracted vendors, and internal staff in a Non/Unionized environment
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of staff, clients and the public.
- Must be available to respond to after-hours calls and emergencies, responding and escalating promptly to address urgent issues
- Ability to train and provide orientation to staff. Ensure staff is kept up to date on all city-required training.
- Ability to promote a positive team working environment and take on new initiatives and challenges
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced knowledge of WHMIS, the Occupational Health and Safety Act,
- Must be able to work various shifts/weekends/on call as scheduled.
- Knowledge of corporate geographical boundaries.
- Possession of a valid Ontario Driver's Licence class "G" and ability to obtain and maintain City of Toronto Equipment Operator's Permit.
