Major Responsibilities:
- Designs internal communication strategies and tools to support Toronto Public Health staff, leadership and organizational priorities.
- Provides guidance and advice as subject matter expert to program managers and leadership regarding internal communications.
- Conducts risk assessments for all internal communications initiatives and recommends risk mitigation tactics.
- Controls all aspects of the internal communications initiatives, provides input on policies and procedures.
- Monitors project work processes, including event planning and ensures critical timelines are met.
- Ensures all internal communication initiatives meet access and equity standards.
- Liaises closely with program managers and staff to design effective internal communication strategies.
- Promotes the implementation of municipal and provincial legislation and strategies.
- Ensures the client is continually apprised of the status of the project, especially milestones and issues.
- Ensures that complex public health data and information is appropriately translated into clear and concise language suited to the target audience and that it conveys the appropriate messaging.
- Ensures all necessary components of the internal communications are delivered on budget and schedule.
- Develops clear content for social marketing, intranet, staff newsletters, memos and event support.
- Ensures all health marketing and communications products align with the Toronto Public Health Strategic Plan.
- Develops and facilitates training for Toronto Public Health staff in relevant communications skills, such as clear writing skills, writing for the web, etc.
- Ensures the delivery of communications products when components of the development are outsourced to the agency of record.
- Contributes to the preparation of purchasing documents to source external contracts.
- Liaises with external marketing agencies where appropriate.
- Conducts research to maintain an up to date knowledge base regarding the marketing and communication techniques and best practices currently utilized in the marketplace.
- Maintains the integrity of and works to improve the Toronto Public Health brand.
- Conducts thorough evaluations of campaigns to determine effectiveness.
- Represents Toronto Public Health at marketing and communications related workshops, conferences and seminars.
Key Qualifications:

A Baccalaureate degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Considerable experience in strategic communications, including internal communication practices, gained in a corporate, public sector, agency, or similar professional environment.

Considerable experience preparing effective communication strategies that support the organization goals and objectives.

Considerable experience applying best practices in organizational or internal communications, including effective use of digital and traditional channels to engage employees or key stakeholders.

Considerable experience developing a wide range of communication materials designed to engage diverse audiences within an organization or similar environment.

Considerable experience managing large communication projects or campaigns that support employee engagement, organizational change, or culture building-initiatives, whether gained internally or through external roles working with organizations.
You must also have:
- Excellent writing, verbal and editing skills.
- Knowledge of industry best practices, accessible and inclusive communications.
- Excellent organizational skills, time management, analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to perform research and evaluate campaigns to support evidence-based decision making.
- Ability to interpret complex concepts and translate the information into plain language.
