Location and Shift Information:

Major Responsibilities:

• Directs staff and performs work involved in the care and culture of trees
• Organizes assigned work such that it is completed in an efficient and expeditious manner. This includes determining the necessary materials and equipment
• Complies with and enforces all legislation and City policies and practices, reporting deficiencies and provides on the job instruction, when necessary, regarding working procedures, equipment operation and Health & Safety standards
• Provides training to staff on all aspects of the operation, and provides feedback on performance
• Completes and ensures Daily Work Activity Report/Log are completed both manually and/or electronically, pre and post trip inspections are completed and any deficiencies are reported to their supervisor
• Ensures daily, weekly, monthly inspections and maintenance of vehicles and equipment are completed per manufactures instructions and documented
• Makes tree maintenance recommendations
• Completes visual tree inspections and records inspection manually or using mobile electronic devices in a work order management system
• Ensures proper procedures, documentation and reporting of incidents/accidents that occur in the workplace
• Works at various heights, including work in proximity to energized conductors, performing tree maintenance and tree removal, using aerial devices and manual climbing; using approved climbing and safety equipment and techniques
• Directs, monitors and assists those working at heights in the handling of ropes for rigging
• Drives/operates/inspects and ensures proper maintenance of various equipment, including but not limited to: dump truck (max 4600 kg), aerial device, knuckle boom (under 7200 kg), brush chipper, stump grinder, skid steer, tractor/loader, trailer (under 4600 kg), backhoe, chain saw, motorized pole saw and other associated equipment and hand tools
• Handles/loads/chips brush and wood using proper lifting techniques
• Liaises with the public to address work site and tree maintenance issues
• Directs and ensures worksite complies with Ontario Traffic Manual, Book 7, Temporary Conditions
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Key Qualifications:

Your resume must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

1. Certificate or diploma in Arboriculture, Forestry or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Extensive experience in all types of arboricultural work including pruning, removal, stumping and newly planted tree maintenance.
3. Experience leading, training and supervising staff engaged in pruning and removal of trees.
4. Experience climbing trees and operating aerial devices.
5. Experience in the care and safe operation of chain saws, motorized pole saws, brush chippers, knuckle boom (under 7200 kg), stump grinders, aerial devices, associated vehicles, and equipment and hand tools.
6. Must possess Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (formally known as Electrical Utilities Safety Association of Ontario) certificate for Safety in Line Clearing Operations and Toronto Hydro Core Certificate or equivalent
7. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “D” Driver’s License with “Z” endorsement and must qualify for and be able to obtain a City’s Operator's Permit.
