SIGN MAINTENANCE (4 PERMANENT):
- 195 Bermondsey Road, Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 2:30pm (1 perm)

- 433 Eastern Avenue, Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 2:30pm (1 perm)
PAVEMENT MARKING (3 PERMANENT):
- 1401 Castlefield Avenue, Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 2:30pm (3 perm)
Major Responsibilities:
- Leads projects, organizes and directs the day-to-day activities of unionized staff.
- Oversees the work of contract staff to ensure health and safety, work specifications and generally accepted standards are maintained.
- Performs tasks required for the installation, operation, general maintenance and repair of equipment, not requiring the services of a licensed trade worker.
- Performs administrative and processing activities as required, such as updating computerized and manual records.
- Assigns work, establishes maintenance schedules to meet prescribed standards, instructs, trains and orients staff in all aspects of work and provides feedback on performance.
- Requisitions supplies and services and maintains records of equipment inventory and other assets.
- Ensures that the work location, equipment and supplies meet health and safety standards and completes all requisite inspections.
- Reads and interprets plans; performs quantity takeoffs and layout of projects.
- Schedules and arranges delivery of materials; equipment; and services to ensure timely and efficient completion of projects.
- Attends all training provided by the City related to the discharge of job duties.
- Ensures that appropriate action is taken to deal with incidents, problems and emergencies in accordance with divisional policies and procedures.
- Interprets and works in accordance with all legislation, codes and regulations related to the responsibilities of the position.
- Communicates and ensures good customer service to community groups, members of the public and other staff. Investigates public complaints and takes appropriate action.
- Responds to inquiries from City staff, contractors, other municipalities, businesses, public and 311.
- Completes written reports, daily logbook and activity sheets, and forms as required, including providing statistical information concerning tasks completed, staff issues, accident/incident reports, and time sheets.
- Contacts and meets with representatives of the utilities to locate services, vendors (suppliers) and keeps thorough records.
- Performs other related work and specific projects as assigned.
Key Qualifications:
- Considerable experience relating to all aspects of traffic control, sign and pavement marking and installations.
- Experience in applying and interpreting related legislation and technical documents including Municipal traffic and parking by-laws, the Highway Traffic Act, the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and the Ontario Traffic Manual.
- Experience in the safe and efficient operation of all vehicles, equipment, hand tools and power tools related to the duties of this position.
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class "G" Driver's License and must qualify for the City's equipment operating permits and requirements.
You must also have:
- Knowledge of sign regulations and specifications, including the Ontario Traffic Manuals, and Highway Traffic Act.
- Knowledge of the City of Toronto road system and City of Toronto Traffic By-laws.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
- Knowledge of MS Office software applications including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Access and MS Excel.
- Working knowledge of materials, operating procedures and preventative maintenance programs related to sign fabrication and maintenance of equipment.
- Working knowledge with TMMS and/or MAXIMO work management systems.
- Ability to provide work direction and training to others.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, mechanical equipment and to make minor mechanical repairs.
- Ability to prepare and complete all relevant forms, schedules, checklists, daily activity reports, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and drawings.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team setting.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, organize and carry out tasks to meet deadlines.
- Ability to deal courteously with the public and staff and solve problem situations, taking appropriate action.
- Ability to maintain Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
- Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to resolve customer issues, conflicts and complaints in-person, by telephone and through written correspondence.
- Must be able to work shifts, weekends and overtime as may be required at various locations.
- Must be physically capable of performing required duties.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
