Reporting to the SAP Senior Systems Engineer (SAP Development), the Lead ERP Specialist (SAP S/4 Frontend – FIORI) will provide technical leadership for the City’s SAP frontend technologies. This role is critical to supporting the City’s transition from ECC to S/4HANA, contributing to both the strategic direction and tactical execution of SAP development initiatives.
The incumbent will lead the design, development, testing, debugging, implementation, and maintenance of applications within the SAP NetWeaver/UI5 environment. They will also mentor and guide the development team throughout the S/4 transition.
Key responsibilities include developing, modifying, and maintaining user interfaces across S/4HANA, Business Application Studio (BAS), and other SAP systems. The role involves extending standard SAP functionality using advanced UI technologies such as UI5, FIORI, and Personas. It also includes creating and maintaining technical design documentation and conducting comprehensive testing and validation of application performance and functionality.
Major Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Lead ERP Application Specialist position include, but are not limited to:
- Implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.
- Supervises, motivates and trains assigned staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others.
- Supervises the day-to-day operation of all assigned staff including the scheduling, assigning and reviewing of work. Authorizes and coordinates vacation and overtime requests. Monitors and evaluates staff performance, approves salary increments, hears grievances and recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
- Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
- Plans and implements upgrades, new releases, new functionality and deployment of Enterprise Applications Systems to new business units.
- Prepares documentation detailing the processes followed in the Enterprise Applications Systems and assists in the establishment of policies and procedures.
- Prepares and manages Business Cases, Requests for Proposal (RFP), Requests for Quotation (RFQ), and Requests for Information (RFI) and participates in the evaluation and selection of technical solutions.
- Acts as a subject matter expert to management on emerging technology trends and guidance on various Enterprise Applications Systems technology roadmaps.
- Provides resource support for other areas of the City including Agencies, Boards and Commissions in their implementation of Enterprise Applications Systems.
- Plans and develops short- and long-term work packages.
- Participates, investigates and coordinates the response to the annual internal and external audit and ensures compliance with audit complaint processes.
- Develops and submits performance indicators and standards for the section to measure operational effectiveness, customer satisfaction and to establish employee objectives. Monitors customer service feedback as appropriate.
- Prepares work estimates, status reports as required for sponsors, managers and/or senior management team.
- Plans, establishes priorities, monitors and adjusts work to accomplish goals impacting the City's divisions including projects that affect the City's operation, Agencies, Boards and Commissions as required through new implementations or upgrades.
- Establishes corporate standards and maintains the Enterprise Applications Systems.
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with division personnel by providing advice and guidance on the use of the Enterprise Applications Systems.
- Ensures integrity and security of City's confidential data, records, reports and sensitive information in accordance with corporate policy and SAP standards.
- Manages and provides solutions to issues/barriers identified in the operations of the Enterprise Applications Systems.
- Participates on project teams that require technical expertise and leadership in areas involving Enterprise Applications Systems.
- Coordinates the unit's operations related to Enterprise Applications Systems maintenance.
- Advises Divisions, City Agencies, Boards and Commissions on various issues related to Enterprise Applications Systems.
- Leads initiative to gather and decipher the business needs and identifies solutions by working with business and the technology areas to gather requirements for development and management.
- Oversees the analysis, validates and the documentation of business and system requirements.
- Conducts and leads the workshops to formalize designs. Modifies and creates business processes that will be used to implement the business transformation solutions, thorough review of research and fact-finding combined with understanding of applicable business processes, systems, and industry requirements.
- Leads IT initiatives by following the systems development life cycle (SDLC) approach and successfully manages all the phases of initiation, planning, requirements gathering, design, development, testing, implementation and maintenance of the Enterprise applications.
Key Qualifications:
Your application for the role of Lead ERP Application Specialist should describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Post-secondary education in computer science, or a recognized equivalent combination of education and/or professional experience.
- Extensive experience in implementing and deploying SAP FIORI/UI5 and OData service creation, including the creation & extension of FIORI applications and their integration with backend systems. Knowledge of Business Application Studio (BAS) and GitLab.
- Considerable experience designing, developing, and maintaining SAP Fiori applications, including app activation, role/catalog/group configuration, and implementation of OData services and UI components, in collaboration with Security and ABAP teams.
- Experience creating, maintaining, and enhancing intuitive and responsive user interfaces that comply with accessibility requirements (AODA) using SAP Fiori design guidelines to ensure a seamless user experience.
- Strong understanding of SAP Fiori design principles and UX guidelines, with the ability to develop and maintain seamless integration with SAP backend systems such as S/4HANA, Gateway, and OData.
- Advanced proficiency in developing extended CDS Views for S/4 embedded analytics, and in building reports and applications using ABAP, UI5, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SAP Business Application Studio (BAS).
- Strong SAP technical expertise, including ABAP Objects, S/4HANA architecture, WRICEF development, and familiarity with SAP functional modules (FI, CO, MM, HR).
- Proficiency with SAP development and lifecycle tools, such as SAP Solution Manager, ADT, Jira, Octane, and HPQC, along with experience in Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid project environments.
- Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills, including guiding development teams, cross-functional coordination with BASIS, Security, and business leads, and aligning solutions with enterprise architecture and standards.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement abilities, with a track record of translating complex technical concepts for diverse audiences and building trusted partnerships.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including independent initiative, workload prioritization, and a focus on results, client service, and continuous improvement.
