As Manager, Stakeholder & Community Outreach, you’ll act as the divisional lead – and spokesperson with the media – for major partnerships and outreach as it may relate to policy development and program planning and service delivery. One of your top priorities will be to help develop, and ensure the implementation of, a wide range of programs and activities for residents to take action on City Council's environmental, social and financial priorities as it relates to Solid Waste Management Service Program service delivery standards.

 

Adept at interpersonal relations at all levels, you’ll engage key stakeholders, residents, businesses, educational institutions, industry associations, non-governmental organizations, and others through strategic partnership building in order to reduce waste, increase reuse and repair opportunities and recycling in order to divert resources from the landfill. A vital aspect of this high-impact role will entail working and engaging proactively with Indigenous Communities and the Province of Ontario, coordinating workgroups and stakeholder committees, and collaborating on cross-divisional/departmental issues.

 

A savvy manager, you’ll supervise the day-to-day operations of all assigned staff, from scheduling, assigning and reviewing work, to providing motivation and training, with a focus on ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, and promoting continuous learning and innovation. Developing and administering the annual budget for the Unit, and ensuring that expenditures are controlled within approved budget limitations will be another integral part of your job.

 

Your ability to work effectively with management colleagues, and direct service staff in identifying and meeting divisional needs will prove invaluable as you lead a staff team mandated to bring interpretation of Council-endorsed solid waste management priorities to the Toronto community through engagement at a community and neighbourhood level. In addition, you’ll develop plans and reporting KPIs to help measure outcomes from Solid Waste Management Services investments in the short, medium and long term, both at a program level and in the community, ideally in collaboration with other City divisions.

 

Among the other strengths you bring to the role of Manager, Stakeholder & Community Outreach will be the following key qualifications:

 

  1. Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Public Policy, Marketing & Communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Extensive experience in strategic partnerships with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders and customer relationships and in applying best practices in leading-edge stakeholder engagement methodologies, engagement plan development and execution and public speaking.
  3. Considerable experience in the preparation of budgets and control of expenditures.
  4. Considerable experience collaborating and working with diverse groups and communities. Specific experience with First Nations and Indigenous Communities would be an asset.
  5. Extensive experience preparing strategic public communications content and delivering information via media interviews, written communications and updates to senior government officials.

 

A creative problem-solver with demonstrated initiative, comfortable working independently and achieving results in an environment with competing deadlines, you’re equally known for your effective consulting, conflict resolution and negotiating skills, enabling you to deal confidently with the community, developers, consultants, other City divisions, and public and private agencies. Your strong verbal and written communication abilities, often used in public presentations, will be evident as you liaise with all levels of the organization and with elected officials, the media and the public.

 

Given the scope of this position, you’ll also bring to the table a sound knowledge of related legislative, contractual obligations and corporate policies, and an in-depth knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its application, ideally complemented by knowledge of issues relevant to the solid waste services business.
