Major Responsibilities:

  • Have extensive knowledge to perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks as a Plumber, Steamfitter, on the installation, operation and repair of mechanical equipment in connection with general building and landscaping construction maintenance
  • Installs, inspects, maintains and repairs to various plumbing systems, including pumps, meters, backflow preventer, irrigation, appliances and auxiliary equipment on City properties using sketches and blueprints Install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures on commercial structures
  • Requisitions materials and equipment to complete repairs and maintenance to same systems using a computer
  • Replaces or repairs boiler tubes, fittings, plates, high pressure piping using tools such as pipe threaders, pipe wrenches, pipe cutters, welding equipment
  • Assembles, installs and repairs a variety of piping by means of threading, soldering, brazing, welding etc.
  • Replaces or repairs equipment for units such as air conditioners, refrigerators, sinks, showers or water closets
  • Removes, installs and realigns rotating and stationary equipment
  • Removes and replaces electrical equipment within the plumbing system
  • Arranges for inspections of new water and drain services and requests stakeouts from public utility companies before excavating
  • Installs, maintains and repairs water services. Activates water services when needed and winterizes same
  • Utilizes a variety of tools/equipment and is responsible for their maintenance
  • Performs a variety of skilled work not requiring the service of other licensed trades
  • Set priorities and work assignments to meet established deadlines
  • Perform diagnostics, repair, maintain, service and install equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications
  • Properly follow CMMS maintenance system procedures by completing WOs, reports, details of work, data logging using a computer
  • Required to work at heights, confined spaces, dusty, odorous and in inclement weather
  • Prepares and maintains written reports and documents related to maintenance and construction activities
  • Performs other related work as assigned

Key Qualifications:

  1. Must possess and be able to maintain a current Certificate of Qualification as a Plumber (306A Plumber).
  2. Considerable experience as a Plumber.
  3. Considerable experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings and specifications and in overseeing work performed by contractors and/or installing based on design specification.
  4. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class "G" Driver's License and must qualify for the City's equipment operating permits and requirements.
  5. Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Back Flow Prevention Tester License

Must Also Have:

  • Ability to provide work direction and training to others.
  • Ability to complete projects unsupervised and unassisted.
  • Ability using overhead hoisting devices. Elevated platforms, Aerial booms and a Forklift.
  • Ability to lay out, install, maintain and repair pipes, fixture etc. at any City structure, building or site.
  • Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
  • Must be physically capable of performing required duties and work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be available to work shift/weekend/overtime/on call duty.
  • Steamfitter (307A Steamfitter) certificate in accordance with the regulations enforced by the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act considered an asset.
