Job Description:
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, Ravines & Environment, the Project Manager Capital Projects Design & Delivery (Wayfinding) will be responsible for the effective implementation and management of the Division's wayfinding program, including the management of contracts for fabrication and installation, the development of wayfinding schemes, and the coordination of signage across all of Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division's assets.
Major Responsibilities:
- Implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding specific requirements of the wayfinding program.
- Manages a multidisciplinary team of staff (including the potential for direct reports), contractors and consultants.
- Manages assigned projects ensuring effective teamwork and communication, high standards of work quality and organizational performance.
- Co-ordinates all documentation, including all correspondence from consultants, manufacturers, and contractors.
- Inspects and supervises work in progress by consultants, contractors and department staff ensuring that all work is executed in accordance with relevant guidelines, legislation (such as AODA) and approved contract documents, project drawings and specifications.
- Reviews assessments conducted with client groups in order to ensure that capital requirements are addressed accordingly during the budget cycle.
- Prepares pre-qualification documents to ensure that qualified bidders are obtained to meet the Corporation's accepted standards for specialized projects.
- Evaluates tender documents and consultant proposals and makes recommendations for Council approval.
- Provides input into and administers assigned budgets, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
- Assists the senior management team in developing strategic policies and programs in support of the overall wayfinding strategy.
- Coordinates and reports on cost control and provides assistance in the preparation of the Section's budget and liaises with other Sections accordingly.
- Compiles, analyzes and correlates data and prepares reports and studies for submission to management and/or council on program related matters.
- Collects, maintains and analyzes data in cost control and capital variance reports. Develops business cases related to staff resource requirements, financial and operational plans.
- Acts as a liaison with other branches and divisions on the topic of wayfinding.
- Monitors schedules and maintains accurate records of budget and resources.
- Confirms detailed and timely reports, records, schedules, monthly status reports, and initiates correction of variances as required by the Manager. Manages and approves the preparation of contracts.
- Liaises with Parks and Community Recreation for coordination of signage assets and implementation of the wayfinding program.
- Assists branch and divisional leadership with communications strategies and resource allocation related to wayfinding and signage.
- Monitors all client-initiated requests for services and provides customer services accordingly.
- Develops and implements database to track project warranties and coordinates with appropriate client and stakeholder teams.
Key Qualifications:
- University degree in a design-related field or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience required.
- Experience with the development of signage and the implementation of wayfinding systems.
- Considerable experience in Project management.
- Considerable experience in ArcGIS (Pro, Arc Map, ArcGIS Online), Adobe Creative Suite graphic programs, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, MS Word, MS Project, Excel, Project Accounting and scanning and imaging software.
- Ability to manage staff, consultants and contractors.
- Highly developed analytical, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with staff, political representatives, consultants, contractors and the public.
- Ability to interpret architectural, landscape, mechanical, electrical and structural drawings and specifications.
- Must possess and maintain valid Province of Ontario Class "G" driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for site visits.
