Job Summary

We are seeking an individual to join the Visitor Economy Office team who is passionate about the night economy, tourism and the role it plays in helping build Toronto’s economy.
The night economy describes the social, cultural, and economic activities that take place between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. In this role, you will serve as an ambassador and facilitator of Toronto’s vibrant night economy. You will lead the ongoing implementation of the Toronto Nightlife Action Plan, a foundation from which Toronto can build on its competitive strengths and address challenges in the development and delivery of night economy infrastructure, amenities, and experiences. The plan aims to foster a vibrant and sustainable night economy by planning, protecting, and creating the night. Key aspects include coordinating municipal services for seamless 24-hour activity, cultivating a safe and inclusive environment, and championing the growth of nightlife businesses and creative industries.
You will collaborate with city divisions, various agencies, the private sector, and other levels of government to develop and implement partnerships for the night economy. This includes focusing on safety, cultural tourism, industry initiatives, and economic development, ensuring inclusivity and diversity while fostering economic growth and prosperity. Reporting to the Manager, Visitor Economy Office, the Project Manager, Night Economy will be responsible for the development and implementation of programs and projects in support of the night economy, including:
- Leading a Night Economy Economic Impact Study by conducting a jurisdictional review and consulting with stakeholders.
- Leading the Internal Working Group Meetings and co-leading the External Working Group Meetings.
- Being the point person for all things night economy related for the Mayor’s Office, Night Economy Champion, Councillors, City Divisions, and Stakeholders.
- Creating and executing the Night Economy Town Hall – venue, logistics, and run of show.
- Executing night economy Council directives, including the remaining items in the Toronto Nightlife Action Plan and Night Economy Review Consultations.
- Writing, reviewing, and providing input on reports that affect the Night Economy.
- Leading communications with the City’s Strategic Public & Employee Communications team (Marketing and Media Relations) on all things related to the night economy.
- Providing biannual updates of the Good Neighbour Guide.
Major Responsibilities:
Liaise with other city divisions, local, provincial, national, and international agencies, the private sector, and other levels of government and coordinates with all sections within the Division as appropriate for project needs.
Oversees the initiation, development, and implementation of partnerships related to the night economy, including safety, cultural tourism, industry initiatives, economic development, and vibrancy.
Works with partners to promote Toronto’s nightlife to residents and visitors, ensuring a diverse and inclusive environment.
Works with the Manager, Visitor Economy Office, to lead and create a Night Economy Economic Impact study and 5 year strategic directions plan working with both external and internal stakeholders.
Oversees multi-disciplinary and cross divisional teams and co-chairs the Internal Working Group for the night economy.
Identifies and allocates staff and financial resources and defines the operational and logistical scope for the annual Night Economy Town Hall and other projects. Ensures projects are completed on budget, within scope, and in a timely manner to meet the needs and service requirements of program areas.
Prepares and presents reports, briefing materials, presentations and recommendations for senior managers, Committees and City Council as required on matters related to the night economy.
Conducts research into the night economy ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.
Reviews, evaluates, and recommends detailed project plans to the Manager for the overall scheduling of projects. Reports on the status of all subprojects through a detailed workback plan.
Communicates any potential situations of media attention, makes recommendations on the course of action, and ensures the Manager is apprised of issues impacting the service delivery of the night economy and any potential impact on Economic, Culture, and Development operations.
Negotiates and implements innovative solutions addressing complex project challenges involving multiple stakeholders in order to achieve assigned objectives.
Represents the Section/Unit in meetings with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, City Divisions, community groups, sponsors, senior staff, and other orders of government.
Develops and manages requests for proposals in accordance with the City's policies and procedures and manages evaluation and selection processes and contracts with suppliers.
Prepares, develops and negotiates agreements with suppliers, contractors, other divisions, partner organizations, and community groups.
Articulates City values, principles and objectives in a variety of forums and effectively represents the City's interest to the public.
Key Qualifications:
- Extensive experience managing multi-faceted projects relating to night economy, hospitality/tourism, or culture and creative industries from inception to completion including research, analysis and reporting to inform project planning, meeting established timelines and implementing set targets successfully.
- Considerable experience working in a multi-level stakeholder environment and establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with clients including industry organizations, community groups, agencies and businesses within both private and public sectors.
- Proven ability to be flexible and to thrive in a high-stress creative environment with frequent and competing deadlines, multiple tasks and high performance expectations and to set and exceed goals.
- Highly developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills to facilitate effective business solutions that will advance the organization.
- Excellent interpersonal, consensus building, consultation and negotiation skills with the ability to make sound decisions.
- Innovative, adaptable and creative to meet the changing needs of industries and customers served and emerging directions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
