Job Description
Striving towards making Toronto one of the most sustainable cities in the world, the Environment, Climate & Forestry Division facilitates the development of corporate-wide environmental and energy policies and programs. Guided by 4 key objectives (Energy Conservation and Demand Management, Reduced Emissions, Energy Security and Supply, Resilient City) the ECF manages initiatives and programs that seek to reduce the environmental footprint of both the entire Toronto community, as well as our own corporate operations.

Reporting to the Manager in Residential Program Delivery, the Research Analyst 2 will provide research, administrative and customer service functions to support the implementation of environment and energy reduction initiatives and strategies for the City and its communities, including the Home Energy Loan Program (HELP) and BetterHomesTO program.
Major Responsibilities:
- Conducts research and analysis related to developing methods for collecting relevant data from program participants and applications (i.e. assists with the intake, review and qualification of program applications).
- Collects, maintains and analyzes data (i.e. for statistical reports and records, using Microsoft Office such as minutes of meetings, and maintains contact lists for the project team).
- Conducts surveys and audits as appropriate.
- Researches and analyzes operating procedures and makes recommendations to improve productivity
- Compiles, analyzes and correlates data and prepares reports and studies for submission to management and/or council on program related matters.
- Tracks development of projects and assists with the intake and review of program applications.
- Assists with administrative support and operational duties for the Division
- Assists in preparation of the annual capital and operating budgets (i.e. ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations; tracks development projects, disbursements and contract obligations).
- Develops and maintains statistical reports and other appropriate records, records contact lists for the Division.
- Provides information and liaises with other City Divisions, agencies and corporations, funding agencies, utility companies, other levels of government, and the private sector to further the goals and objectives of the program.
- Prepares reports and provides assistance to City and outside agencies and committees.
- Develops, designs and delivers presentations (i.e. assists with the design, development, implementation and monitoring of sector-based strategies and initiatives).
- Answers inquiries regarding program area.
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Studies or a relevant discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and/or related experience.
- Considerable experience providing a high level of customer service engaging with property owners, building managers and residents by e-mail, telephone or in-person.
- Experience in the areas of data identification, collection and documentation including developing effective written materials such as reports, minutes and memos.
- Experience conducting research, analysis, interpreting large volumes of data and summarizing findings.
- Experience with grant and/or finance program coordination.
You Must Also Have:
- Strong ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise and maintain collaborative relationships both internally and externally including other City divisional staff, agencies and corporations, utility companies, other levels of government and members of the public.
- Ability to research, access and summarize relevant qualitative and quantitative information into clear and concise reports for senior management and other stakeholders.
- Ability to function or operate as a member of an interdisciplinary team and represent the division in a variety of situations.
- Highly developed project management and analytical skills with the ability to take initiative and solve problems.
- Well-developed organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously to meet established deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of management, internal/external clients, divisional and corporate staff including the ability to write concise reports, prepare and deliver presentations.
- Strong understanding of environment and energy-related issues, building science, technologies and relevant stakeholders.
- Knowledge of City reporting systems such as SAP or similar financial or property data management applications.
- Knowledge of the City's financial policies and procedures.
- Self-motivated to promote and encourage participation in ECF's programs and initiatives, designed to help existing Toronto Buildings reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
- Ability to work in collaboration with various partners and relevant stakeholders to ensure ease of participation for Toronto buildings in various greenhouse gas reduction initiatives.
- Familiarity and/or knowledge with the use of Social Media tools and web development in a government setting.
- Ability to work evenings as well as weekends in line with divisional needs and requirements.
