Job Summary:

The City of Toronto delivers a program called Healthy Babies Healthy Children (HBHC). This program is a home visiting program that aims to support optimal prenatal health and birth outcomes, improve child health and development, parent-child relationship, parenting capacity and promote positive parenting skills.

 

This Research Trainee will assist in the Client Voice Project which is currently underway. Phase 1 of this project includes the completion of a literature search about publicly funded home visiting programs. Findings from the literature search will inform the development of a method to gather, analyze, and integrate client feedback to understand client satisfaction levels and inform HBHC program service delivery processes and outcomes from the perspective of its clients. With this information, the HBHC program will be able to incorporate client perspectives when identifying improvement efforts and assessing program achievements.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the completion of a literature search
  • Assists with assembling, compiling, and delivering information/survey packages
  • Collects data by distributing questionnaires, visiting sites, asking participants/groups for information/opinions etc.
  • Assists with gathering information from businesses, the public, or other key partners and responds to program-related inquiries
  • Documents findings.  Inputs/retrieves/updates/maintains data
  • Assists with organizing and presenting data collected
  • Assists with compiling and consolidation of data for others to analyze/process including the creation of charts and tables
  • Assists with drafting documents, bulletins etc. and data analysis
  • Assists in maintaining data/statistics and providing data validation
  • Assists with various office functions
  • Assists in provision of seminars/webinars
  • Answers calls, provides general information, takes messages and directs inquiries to appropriate staff to answer questions/handle requests

 

Key Qualifications: 

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to: 

  1. Student in Nursing, Health/Social Sciences (thesis-based) graduate studies or Library Masters or Information Sciences combined with research experience.
  2. Experience with scholarly activities, including synthesizing research findings, academic writing, preparing detailed reports and presentations, and with conducting literature searches, including rapid reviews.

 

You must also have:

  • Advanced knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and demonstrated analytical skills.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with data management and various PC hardware and software, including Windows 11 and Microsoft Office standard applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); experience managing bibliographic data and using reference management software.
  • Knowledge of child health and healthy child development is an asset.
  • Good understanding of research ethics, including issues related to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Excellent research methods skills, including the ability to effectively conduct research and complete data collection, analysis, critical thinking, and communication.
  • Excellent critical appraisal, and evidence review skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, data management, and project management skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently as well as cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Contributed to or cited as a co-author is an asset.
