Job Description

Reporting to the SAP Senior Enterprise Technical lead (Development, Integration & Quality Assurance), the SAP Integration Lead is responsible for driving the end-to-end integration strategy across the organization, leveraging SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) and SAP Integration Suite. This includes leading the design, development, and delivery of scalable and secure integration solutions between SAP and non-SAP systems, both on-premise and in the cloud. The role ensures adherence to industry best practices, project standards, and regulatory requirements, while managing the full integration lifecycle—from requirements gathering and technical design to deployment, monitoring, and error handling. The Integration Lead also plays a critical role in maintaining operational excellence through performance tuning, quality assurance, and proactive issue resolution.

 

In addition to technical leadership, the Integration Lead collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors to align integration solutions with enterprise goals. The role includes managing a team of developers, overseeing work allocation and delivery, and fostering a culture of continuous learning through mentoring and coaching. The Integration Lead contributes to planning and governance activities, represents the integration stream in project and operational forums, and provides subject matter expertise for middleware and direct integration scenarios. This position is pivotal in ensuring seamless data and process connectivity across the enterprise landscape.

 

 

Major Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.
  • Supervises, motivates and trains assigned staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others.
  • Supervises the day-to-day operation of all assigned staff including the scheduling, assigning and reviewing of work.  Authorizes and coordinates vacation and overtime requests.  Monitors and evaluates staff performance, approves salary increments, hears grievances, and recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
  • Plans and implements upgrades, new releases, new functionality, and deployment of Enterprise Applications Systems to new business units.
  • Prepares documentation detailing the processes followed in the Enterprise Applications Systems and assists in the establishment of policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and manages Business Cases, Requests for Proposal (RFP), Requests for Quotation (RFQ), and Requests for Information (RFI) and participates in the evaluation and selection of technical solutions.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert to management on emerging technology trends and guidance on various Enterprise Applications Systems technology roadmaps.
  • Provides resource support for other areas of the City of Toronto including Agencies, Boards and Commissions in their implementation of Enterprise Applications Systems.
  • Plans and develops short- and long-term work packages.
  • Participates, investigates, and coordinates the response to the annual internal and external audit and ensures compliance with audit complaint processes.
  • Develops and submits performance indicators and standards for the section to measure operational effectiveness, customer satisfaction and to establish employee objectives. Monitors customer service feedback as appropriate.
  • Prepares work estimates, status reports as required for sponsors, managers and/or senior management team.
  • Plans, establishes priorities, monitors and adjusts work to accomplish goals impacting the City's divisions including projects that affect the City's operation, Agencies, Boards and Commissions as required through new implementations or upgrades.
  • Establishes corporate standards and maintains the Enterprise Applications Systems.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with division personnel by providing advice and guidance on the use of the Enterprise Applications Systems.
  • Ensures integrity and security of City's confidential data, records, reports and sensitive information in accordance with corporate policy and SAP standards.
  • Manages and provides solutions to issues/barriers identified in the operations of the Enterprise Applications Systems.
  • Participates on project teams that require technical expertise and leadership in areas involving Enterprise Applications Systems.
  • Coordinates the unit's operations related to Enterprise Applications Systems maintenance.
  • Advises Divisions, City Agencies, Boards and Commissions on various issues related to Enterprise Applications Systems.
  • Leads initiative to gather and decipher the business needs and identifies solutions by working with business and the technology areas to gather requirements for development and management.
  • Oversees the analysis, validates and the documentation of business and system requirements.
  • Conducts and leads the workshops to formalize designs. Modifies and creates business processes that will be used to implement the business transformation solutions, thorough review of research and fact-finding combined with understanding of applicable business processes, systems, and industry requirements.
  • Leads IT initiatives by following the systems development life cycle (SDLC) approach and successfully manages all the phases of initiation, planning, requirements gathering, design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of the Enterprise applications.

 

 

Key Qualifications:

 

Your application for the role of Senior Systems Integrator (SAP Integration Lead) should describe your qualifications as they relate to:

 

  1. Extensive experience in SAP integration projects, including at least 5 years of experience in SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP)/SAP Integration Suite/Cloud Platform Integration (CPI).
  2. Extensive experience creating integration flows (iFlows) including iFlow mapping, groovy scripting and message mappings for complex integration scenarios.
  3. Demonstrated experience designing and implementing integration solutions using SAP Integration Suite (SAP CPI and SAP API Management).
  4. Experience integrating with S/4HANA. Integration experience with SAP Ariba and SAP SuccessFactors is considered an asset.
  5. Experience with file-based integration, IDocs, ABAP proxies, and native SAP integrations.
  6. Experience with web services, APIs (REST, SOAP), and OData protocols.
  7. Experience designing error handling and monitoring for end-to-end integration solutions.
  8. Demonstrated experience developing procedures and processes for both project and sustainment activities including knowledge of DevOps practices and tools for integration lifecycle management.
  9. Strong understanding of integration security concepts, including OAuth, SAML, SSL/TLS and PGP encryption and decryption.
  10. Experience with Application Integration Framework (AIF) is considered an asset.
  11. Strong knowledge of ECC/S4HANA integration including ABAP development, NetWeaver Gateway (SEGW), API (ODATA and SOAP Webservices) and Restful ABAP Programming model (RAP) is considered an asset.
  12. Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
  13. Demonstrated experience leading a team for integration delivery.
  14. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  15. Experience with SAP Event Mesh or SAP Graph, Knowledge of SAP BTP Extension Suite (for scenarios where integration and extension overlap), experience with CI/CD pipelines for integration artifacts is considered an asset.
  16. Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and project management experience is considered an asset.
  17. Experience with SAP Integration Suite’s AI-based tools (e.g., Integration Advisor) is considered an asset.
