Major Responsibilities:

  • Manufactures various signs for the City.
  • Determines materials required and layout for production of various traffic, street name and construction, signs, etc.
  • Utilizes and interprets sketches, drawings, written instructions and Province of Ontario standards.
  • Draws pictorial portion of signs. Operates various computer signing machines/equipment, process cameras etc. and hand letters signs.
  • Applies signage to various objects such as litter containers.
  • Ensures accuracy of sign wording and numbering. Travels to various sites and inspects signs to test materials, quality of work etc.
  • Operates various painting equipment to remove old markings and add new markings for sign installation. May hang signs/erect poles, if necessary.
  • Makes signs reflective and paints objects when required. Makes repairs.
  • Utilizes a variety of tools/equipment/machines and is responsible for their maintenance. 
  • Orders materials as required and contacts suppliers.
  • Maintains logs/work orders and records procedures. 
  • May provide work direction and training to other staff. 
  • Travels to various work locations.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Experience in sign manufacturing, specifically with vinyl lettering systems, silk screening and hand lettering processes.
  2. Experience with sign design program FLEXI, Scanvec and Corel Draw
  3. Experience with large format Digital Printing
  4. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class ”G” Driver’s License and must qualify for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements.

 

  Must also have:

  • Knowledge of Province of Ontario signing specifications including for example, the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Ontario Traffic Manual and Highway Traffic Act, etc.
  • Ability to interpret sketches/drawings.
  • Demonstrated creative and artistic ability.
  • Ability to deal courteously with the public.
  • Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
  • Must be physically capable of performing required duties.
