We invite you to join our People & Equity Division as a Senior HR Consultant, where you will be instrumental in shaping our organization’s future. In this role, you will report directly to the Manager of the Office of the Chief People Officer, working closely with the Chief People Officer to advance various divisional initiatives and support the smooth functioning of our day-to-day operations.
As a Senior HR Consultant, you will oversee and coordinate diverse divisional projects, ensuring that they align with our strategic objectives and contribute to our overarching goals. Your role will be central to enhancing our People & Equity services, providing valuable support in managing key issues, and implementing innovative solutions to drive improvements. Your analytical skills will come into play as you engage in data analysis and research, helping to inform and shape corporate initiatives that have the potential to make a significant impact across the organization.
In addition to your project management responsibilities, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of initiatives that drive organizational change. Major Responsibilities:
- Leads and/or supports the development and implementation of HR programs, communications and business processes.
- Leads and/or is a member of diverse project teams (composed of representatives of other HR Sections and/or other divisions) in planning, reviewing business processes and recommending solutions to enhance divisional efficiency and effectiveness and ensure continuous improvement.
- Conducts research into assigned area ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.
- Represents the Division on key divisional, corporate and external teams and initiatives and maintains effective working relationships with senior management, divisional and other City staff, and external organizations (e.g., labour disruption planning, pandemic planning, elections).
- Prepares briefing notes, reports, and other communications materials in response to inquiries, issues and challenges from staff, members of Council, the public and media on behalf of the Manager and/or Chief People Officer.
- Acts as Section liaison for information, problem resolution and develops / coordinates divisional responses to client queries. Makes recommendations to the Manager to support change management strategies to improve the Division's overall strategic and operating performance.
- Utilizes best practices research in order to disseminate recommendations and influence change related to service performance improvement and management in the Division.
- Builds and maintains strong professional working relationships with senior leadership at the City and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Key Qualifications:
- Post-Secondary education in human resources, business or public administration or in a professional discipline pertinent to the job function or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience as a fully accountable project manager from project inception and planning to implementation in a results driven environment.
- Experience in coordinating and implementing organizational planning processes, business process reviews, service performance management, quality assurance, program development, program evaluation and project management.
- Extensive experience developing written communications materials and the ability to prepare concise responses, speaking notes, briefing notes, and reports on a diverse variety of topics.
- Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, consultation and presentation skills
- Highly developed interpersonal, analytical, strategic thinking, creative problem-solving, and research skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, consultation and presentation skills. Ability to conduct information sessions and provide applicable training.
- Ability to exercise confidentiality, discretion and judgement and work independently or as a leader/member of a project team, utilizing specialized skills and abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and through strong political acuity and confidence, boldly lead initiatives and teams and follow-up with senior management team members on priority issues.
- Agility to confidently shape ideas, conduct research and incubate concepts that may subsequently be transferred to a project team or business owner.
- Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures and legislation (e.g., Occupational Health & Safety Act, Employment Standard Act, etc.)
