Within the Technology Services Division, we are seeking a talented and enthusiastic GIS professional to join our enterprise geospatial team and contribute to the design, development, implementation, and support of innovative spatial data and technology solutions. In this role, you will leverage your expertise with Esri technologies, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise, along with your skills in Python, FME, and data management to help City divisions effectively manage, integrate, and publish critical spatial information.

Major Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities as a Spatial Specialist will be varied. Specifically, you will:
- Prepare and evaluate information and technology proposals, requirements, analysis and design documents including detailed specifications of data, information and software architectures.
- Participate in design and evaluation sessions of spatial data structures and spatially enabled applications with objectives to conduct testing, devise audits and support implementations.
- Work on complex geospatial information systems with a relational database management component using highly developed analytical skills to research problems, conduct audits and deal with highly complex issues.
- Prepare detailed test plans for geospatial applications and conduct tests.
- Support the management of corporate geographic data assets by developing knowledge of core data holdings.
- Provide understanding and guidance by relating spatial data management best practices to corporate data standards, related policies and regulations.
- Document geospatial data and data management processes.
- Maintain full understanding of software deployment mechanisms including software versioning and quality control.
- Develop and implements geospatial information solutions ensuring that all applications and data are quality assured with documentation and education provided to all persons involved with the deployment.
- Meet with clients to discuss needs, uses in-depth knowledge of a specific business area or process to develop recommendations for improvement, identifying business requirements, assessing impact on users and testing new/modified systems while ensuring maximum return from geospatial technology.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of both the current and emerging geospatial information technology and products.
- Administer client access to geospatial databases and applications
Key Qualifications:
Your application for the role of Spatial Specialist (Productivity and Automation Specialist) should clearly demonstrate how your qualifications and experience relate to the following:
- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Considerable experience with the Esri suite of products, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise, for geospatial data design, analysis, publishing, and management.
- Considerable experience with geospatial data management, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), and data publishing workflows within a municipal or enterprise environment.
- Experience analyzing business and user requirements, designing geospatial data structures, recommending effective solutions, and communicating the value and application of geospatial technologies to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience developing Python scripts and automating geospatial workflows within the ArcGIS environment.
- Experience developing and implementing Arcade expressions to support smart forms, dynamic content, and enhanced user experiences.
- Experience with SQL, including spatial data types and functions, as well as geospatial ETL and data integration tools such as FME and/or Apache Airflow.
You must also have:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively document, present, and transfer knowledge to both technical and non-technical staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to contribute effectively to team-based initiatives through collaboration, facilitation, communication, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and incident management.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose, investigate, and resolve data, application, and system issues efficiently.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and workload planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines concurrently.
- Ability to work flexible hours including days, afternoons, nights and weekends, as required.
- Ability to travel to various office locations within the City of Toronto, as required.
