Job Summary:

 

In this role, you will participate in the design, development, implementation and ongoing support of geospatial data and technology solutions. Your expertise with Esri products, particularly ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online/Enterprise and your experience with Python scripting, Arcade, and geospatial data workflows will be utilized to support City divisions in managing and publishing spatial data and  maintaining data quality. You will play a key role in designing and maintaining ETL processes, establishing procedures for stakeholder data maintenance, and promoting geospatial best practices and standards across the organization.

 

 

Job Functions:

 

  • Prepares and evaluates information and technology proposals, requirements, analysis and design documents including detailed specifications of data, information and software architectures.
  • Participates in design and evaluation sessions of spatial data structures and spatially enabled applications with objectives to conduct testing, devise audits and support implementations.
  • Works on complex geospatial information systems with a relational database management component using highly developed analytical skills to research problems, conduct audits and deal with highly complex issues.
  • Prepares detailed test plans for geospatial applications and conduct tests.
  • Supports the management of corporate geographic data assets by developing knowledge of core data holdings.
  • Provides understanding and guidance by relating spatial data management best practices to corporate data standards, related policies and regulations.
  • Documents geospatial data and data management processes.
  • Maintains full understanding of software deployment mechanisms including software versioning and quality control.
  • Develops and implements geospatial information solutions ensuring that all applications and data are quality assured with documentation and education provided to all persons involved with the deployment.
  • Meets with clients to discuss needs, uses in-depth knowledge of a specific business area or process to develop recommendations for improvement, identifying business requirements, assessing impact on users and testing new/modified systems while ensuring maximum return from geospatial technology.
  • Maintains an up to date knowledge of both the current and emerging geospatial information technology and products.
  • Administers client access to geospatial databases and applications.

 

 

Key Qualifications:

 

Your application for the role of Spatial Specialist should describe your qualifications as the relate to:

  1. Post-secondary Education in Computer Science, Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems, Geography or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  2. Considerable experience with the Esri Suite (ArcGIS Pro, Esri ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise) for geospatial data design, publishing and analysis.
  3. Considerable experience with geospatial data management, quality control, and data publishing workflows within a municipal or enterprise context.
  4. Experience analyzing user requirements, design data structures, recommending solutions and clearly communicating the means of geospatial technologies.
  5. Experience  with Python and automation tasks within ArcGIS environment
  6. Experience with Arcade expressions for smart forms and dynamic content.
  7. Experience with SQL (including geospatial types and functions), and geospatial ETL tools such as FME and/or AirFlow

  • Good verbal and written communications and knowledge transfer skills
  • Interpersonal skills and an aptitude to work independently and collaboratively with others in a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Efficient and effective skills with regards to teamwork, facilitation, communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, and incident management in projects, assignments and service engagements.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve data or system issues efficiently and independently.
  • Time management and estimation capabilities and the ability to perform several tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including days, afternoons, nights and weekends, as required.
  • Ability to travel across various office locations within the City of Toronto, as required.
