Job Description:
The City of Toronto requires certain businesses to report on their use and release to the air of 25 priority chemicals identified because of their health impacts and presence in our air environment. These chemicals and requirement to report to Toronto Public Health through the ChemTRAC program are contained in the Environmental Reporting and Disclosure Bylaw (Toronto Municipal Code, Chapter 423.) This year will be the first full reporting year since 2019. ChemTRAC is looking for support contacting businesses and assisting them in meeting their reporting requirements individually or in group training sessions. The individual in this position will use qualitative and quantitative analyses to verify if reported amounts are accurate while communicating highly technical concepts using straightforward, conversational language. The role will also include updating guidance and training materials as needed based on research into industrial processes and environmental best practices and support in reviewing and validating emission calculators and other tools available to help businesses estimate chemical usage and emissions.
Major Responsibilities:
- Support businesses storing and using chemicals to submit standardized and accurate reporting through email, telephone, or during training sessions
- Accurately respond to inquiries from businesses and the public, including communicating highly technical concepts using conversational language
- Compile and review reports and communications, and update program guidance materials where needed
- Research industrial processes and environmental best practices as needed
- Assist in the review, validation, and improvement of reported data and reporting tools
- Support workshops and participants questions, assisting them with required information, calculating, and submitting their report
- Other tasks as assigned
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in chemical or environmental engineering, environmental science or chemistry education.
- Minimum 1 year experience in providing customer service to a high standard or equivalent experience.
You must also have:
- Understanding of common industrial processes in a variety of business sectors, including relevant chemicals.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Data management and research skills.
- Strong communication skills (written and oral) to provide plain language technical support to facilities and members of the public from across Toronto.
- Ability to work independently and with an interdisciplinary team.
