Join the award-winning Toronto Public Service as a Technical Trainee within the City Clerk's Office. 

 

Reporting to the Project Manager of Voting Places and Geography, the Technical Trainee will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of the 2026 Voting Places portfolio including managing stakeholder relationships, creating technical drawings, carrying out voting place inspections and providing suggestions to the Project Manager to address any gaps related to AODA compliance. 

 

This developmental opportunity will provide the successful candidate with the chance to gain experience with the City of Toronto and assist in the early stages of the 2026 municipal election.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assists with collecting, preparing, organizing, and presenting of information/ notes/sketches/reports from field investigations and site visits.
  • Takes photos and records data.
  • Assists with marking and measuring.
  • Enters data into various business unit systems.
  • Assists with maintaining equipment.
  • Assists with indexing, searching, retrieving and filing of records including electronic data
  • Assists with the administrative responsibilities of the business unit such as; customer contact/follow up, issuing permits, answering inquiries, providing general information, taking messages and directing inquiries to appropriate staff to/handle questions/requests.
  • Travels to various location around the city, as required.

 

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

 

  1. Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of a post-secondary degree or diploma program in, Building Code/Home Inspection, Urban Planning, Architectural Technology, Building Services or other similar program area or related field.
  2. Experience with various technical hardware (i.e., Laptops, Tablets, Desktop PC, Scanners, Wireless Networks).
  3. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. MS Access, Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  4. Experience working in a customer service environment, responding to customer enquiries and dealing directly with staff and the public in person and by phone.
  5. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's License.

 

You must also have:

  • Knowledge of Visio, Sketch-up, or other visualization tools is considered an asset.
  • Access to a personal vehicle considered an asset.
  • Excellent oral communication and presentation skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and the public in an efficient and diplomatic manner.
  • Knowledge of matters related to equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, problem-solving, and customer service skills and the proven ability to deal with challenging situations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including attention to detail, ability to set priorities, ability to meet deadlines, and ability to deal with conflicting priorities at work.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to handle information of a confidential/sensitive nature.
  • Knowledge of AODA compliance to assist Project Manager with site inspections.  
  • Willingness and ability to work long hours in peak periods, including evenings and weekends.
