Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Transfer Stations, and Landfill Operations’ (TS&LO) Operations Coordination, the successful candidate will assist with the implementation of environmental health and safety (EH&S) initiatives for TS&LO, including site environmental and safety risk assessments, compiling analytical reports on safety training, and contributing to the development of policies, programs, procedures, and manuals.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the development and revision of policies, procedures, manuals, and forms for frontline staff related to environmental health and safety regulations.
  • Assists with the conducting of site environmental and safety risk assessments to identify existing or potential hazards, determine corrective or preventive actions, and provide the necessary follow-up.
  • Assists with preparing analytical reports on safety training, compliance issues and performance, internal audits, risk management plans, and ad hoc management requests.
  • Assists in scheduling training sessions for management and frontline staff.
  • Assists with collecting, organizing, and presenting of information/field notes/sketches/reports from field investigations and site visits.

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Post-secondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function (i.e., degree or diploma program in an Occupational Health & Safety related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

You must also have:

  • General knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and associated Act, regulations, policies, procedures, guidelines, and other applicable statutes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use various software tools and applications for developing and maintaining databases and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and present information.
  • Ability to conduct statistical analysis and manipulation of data.
  • Ability to draft and create presentations.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Flexibility to travel to other City work locations and work in person more than twice a week, when required.
  • A valid Ontario "G" Driver's License.
  • Access to own personal vehicle.
