Hourly Rate: $34.70

Hours & Shift Information: 40 hours per week. Monday - Friday, 6:30am to 2:30pm per week

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Erects and maintains traffic signs, related poles and hardware, pavement makings and other traffic control devices
  • Receives and interprets Traffic By-Laws, plans, diagrams or instructions for required sign and pavement markings within the Right of Way
  • Assists Supervisor and technical staff in laying out work, determining requirements, and interpreting drawings and specifications
  • As required, contacts and meets with representatives of the utilities to locate services, and keeps thorough records of work done
  • Liaises with homeowners, general public, contractors, etc., with respect to work carried out and to resolve issues
  • Operates a vehicle to transport personnel and materials to work site
  • Provides work direction and training to other staff
  • Operates portable spray painting equipment and perform maintenance and minor repairs on equipment
  • Operates pneumatic-powered tools and hand tools, such as jack hammer, core drill, grinder, power drills and banders
  • Performs other related work as assigned

 

Key Qualifications: 

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Considerable experience relating to all aspects of traffic control, sign and pavement marking installations.
  2. Considerable experience in the safe and efficient operation and use of all vehicles, equipment, specialized attachments and materials related to the duties of this position, included but not limited to working on a ladder.
  3. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and be qualified to obtain the necessary City equipment operating permits.

 

You must also have:

  • Knowledge of sign regulations and specifications, including the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Ontario Traffic Manuals, and Highway Traffic Act.
  • Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and must be physically capable of performing all responsibilities.
  • Must be available to work shifts, weekends, overtime and work at various locations.
  • Ability to prepare and complete all relevant forms, schedules, checklists, daily activity reports, etc.
  • Ability to deal courteously and ensure good customer service with community groups, members of the public and other staff.
