The Engineering Technologist Technician 1 will be part of a team responsible in providing technical services to customers in target sectors. The successful candidate will perform investigations, surveys and analysis related to programs and projects of the City's facilities, infrastructure and moveable assets.
Major Responsibilities:
- Administers, prepares, co-ordinates requirements and reviews designs, reports, specifications and any documentation related to construction projects and land development proposals.
- Conducts surveys, investigations, and studies for a variety of proposals, programs, land development applications and projects pertaining to the City's facilities and infrastructure.
- Leads projects and directs staff on projects.
- Prepare Street Naming, renaming Reports and acquire the necessary information to support the Reports as required submission to Community Council
- Programs, operates and maintains a variety of mechanical, digital, analogue, wireless, computerized and other equipment and systems in performing surveys, draughting, calculations, diagnostics, repairs, studies, etc.
- Conduct Title Searches to assist in depositing plans into Land Registry in support of the Capital Delivery program.
- Develops, maintains and monitors programs and systems.
- Liaises with Utility companies, developers, public, contractors, etc. on pre-construction meetings, to resolve problems etc.
- Performs and/or reviews research and calculations and analyzes technical data.
- Investigates and responds to inquiries from the public, surveyors, consultants, contractors related to construction activity on by-law interpretation, location of property lines, encroachments, digital CADD and processes.
- Prepares, reads and interpret technical drawings.
Key Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in relevant discipline (Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, etc.) or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or experience.
- Considerable experience maintaining property records information within an automated environment as well as interpreting and reading legal survey plans and various types of registered/unregistered legal documents.
- Considerable experience undertaking title searches/retrieving information within the Land Registry Office system (POLARIS/Teraview).
You must also have:
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of all relevant Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations, statutes, standards and practices
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel and Access.) and preparing reports for various stakeholders such as Colleagues, members of the public and Councillors.
- Ability to create and maintain databases and reports.
- Ability to work effectively with consultants, contractors, colleagues and other City employees at all levels and members of the public
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, at all organizational levels
- Ability to provide work direction to other staff
- Ability to plan, prioritize and organize and work with minimal supervision
- Advanced problem solving, project co-ordination skills and the ability to exercise independent judgement in dealing with technical matters
