Job Summary:
To order, receive and maintain assets, tools and equipment that support the water metering program, including materials and equipment required for the repair, maintenance and replacement of meters and meter transmission units, and warranty management.
Reports To: Supervisor Customer Care Services and Manager Customer Care Services
Job Functions:
- Orders, tracks, maintains and distributes water meters, water meter transmission units, field programming kits and other various water metering-related materials and equipment.
- Tracks and maintains inventory and stock of water metering assets including daily use counts, reorder reports and obsolete stock reports.
- Validates and distributes water metering assets to external contractors performing work on behalf of the City and/or customers who have purchased a new water service.
- Conducts regular inventory counts and reconciliations.
- Monitors the quality and quantity of inventoried materials, supplies, tools and equipment. Exchanges goods not meeting standards/specifications. Recommends new suppliers.
- Organizes and maintains stockroom, and ensures storage area, building, vehicles and delivery area, etc. are clean and well maintained.
- Coordinates all documentation related to ordering, receiving, invoice approval, shipment and delivery of all items, and enters data into the inventory management system. This includes ensuring all items are properly received, unpacked, examined, counted, sorted, labelled, coded and stored.
- Arranges for testing, repairs and maintenance of water metering assets, equipment and tools as required.
- Co-ordinates the return of items, determining whether they can be re-issued, require warranty replacement, or require disposal.
- Co-ordinates the purchasing of water metering assets, materials and related equipment and other required inventory items throughout the corporate purchasing process; liaises with Purchasing and other divisional sections/units as required.
- Liaises with external contractors and private tradespeople in order to facilitate water meter asset distribution.
- Ensures compliance in Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) requirements of the "Hazardous Products Act and Controlled Products Regulations" and updates the computerized and hard copies of MSDS sheets as required and ensures compliance with Ministry of Environment.
- Fosters positive co-operative working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Provides input for the annual budget for materials and equipment, recommends and co-ordinates new procedures and assists with implementation and maintenance of an automated system.
- Prepares and provides reports with respect to cost analysis, inventory status and trends with associated recommendations.
- Picks up and delivers inventory and related items as required.
- Delivers meters to external customers as required.
- Performs off reads for water meter assets when they are returned and enters the information in the corresponding software system.
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Considerable experience in warehousing processes and procedures, or related background within a large organization.
- Considerable experience in the use of automated inventory system i.e. SAP.
- Considerable experience in the operation of computer systems for data entry, retrieval, statistical reporting and communications using software applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Considerable experience handling materials using power (electric, propane, gasoline) equipment and the ability to obtain and maintain a City operators license for a forklift.
- Considerable experience in customer service background and the ability to maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
- Possession of a valid Ontario Driver's License Class "G" and a clean driving record with the ability to qualify for and maintain a City Equipment Operations license.
You must also have:
- Ability to work in an industrial environment with exposure to outdoor elements and high levels of noise.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHMIS and the regulations that apply to the working environment.
- Ability to work at heights of up to 20 feet.
- Ability to analyze, calculate and reconcile numeric values.
- Ability to plan and organize work, applying detail and accuracy techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
- Knowledge of the Corporate Records retention process and its governing by-laws.
- Physically capable of lifting and handling stock up to 20 kg.
- Must be available to work occasional evenings, and/or weekends.
