Major Responsibilities:

 

  • Performs a variety of labouring duties related to the operations, maintenance and repair of infrastructure related to the maintenance and upkeep of plants, buildings and grounds in a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Performs cleaning duties including the cleaning of sludge and chemical spills and large tanks. Assists with odour and flood control.
  • Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools and equipment and is responsible for their maintenance.
  • Assists skilled/technical staff with the operation and/or maintenance and/or repair and/or installation of plant equipment.
  • Maintains buildings, grounds and equipment in a clean and tidy condition.
  • Drives vehicles to transport workers, equipment, supplies and for various duties such as snow removal and may operate a variety of equipment including but not limited to forklifts, lawn care equipment, snow/ice removal equipment and various hoisting equipment.
  • Loads and unloads materials.
  • Maintains accurate records. Completes reports (e.g., Driver’s Collision/Incident Report) related to assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Performs work in a clean, safe, efficient and courteous manner.
  • Performs other duties at this wage grade level or lower such as labouring type duties, maintenance and cleaning activities when not operating assigned vehicle or equipment.

 

Key Qualifications:

 

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

 

  1. Experience using various tools and equipment.
  2. Experience with requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations for the safe performance of his/her duties and responsibilities or capable of obtaining familiarity of same, including Confined Space Entry and Working at Heights.
  3. Experience with environmental legislation related to spill procedures.
  4. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License and must have or shall be required to obtain required City permit for assigned vehicle(s) and equipment.
  5. Must possess and be able to maintain as appropriate, any valid Province of Ontario requirements to operate mechanized equipment.
  6. Must be able to follow safe work practices and wear all personal protective equipment required, including SCBA/respirator.
  7. Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  8. Must be able to work in confined spaces.
  9. Must be able to work from heights, ladders, scaffolding, stairs, rooftops, etc.
  10. Must be physically capable of performing required duties, including walking, climbing stairs/ladders and lifting up to 25 kilograms.

  • Ability to deal courteously with the public.
  • Ability to communicate in relation to their job duties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and interpret sketches.
  • Ability to use a computer and be trained on various systems/software to apply the needed skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to use or learn to use various technical devices related to the position.
  • Ability to maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
  • Ability to orient new staff on assigned vehicles/equipment.
  • Ability to work shift work/weekends and standby in accordance with Collective Agreement.
  • Ability to work overtime and call-ins as required in accordance with Collective Agreement.
