Job Description:

 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Customer Field Services, the Water Service Technician 2 will investigate, analyze, coordinate and respond to service requests and complaints related to Toronto Water and will take appropriate action as required in accordance with divisional policies and procedures.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

  • Responds, assesses and investigate all customer service enquiries related to the operations, maintenance, and/or repairs of water distribution, wastewater collection systems and appurtenances.
  • Determines the appropriate level of response required to correct or deal with planned or emergency customer service enquires related to all water distribution, wastewater collection and water meter issues.
  • Responds to customer inquiries, concerns or complaints in a professional and timely manner providing exceptional customer service to both external and internal customers.
  • Prepares detailed, accurate and complete reports related to all work, investigations or trouble shooting related to any customer service request and / or concern utilizing electronic works management system software.
  • Works both independently and in a cooperative team environment with city staff such as Customer Care Associates to organize and prioritize assigned work to ensure completion of critical tasks consisting of planning, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring appointments in an effective and efficient manner for all customer service related issues. Activates and winterizes seasonal water services and meters as required.
  • Ensures that all work is performed in a clean, safe and courteous manner in accordance with the OHSA, City of Toronto safe work practices, other Toronto Water practices including preparing job sites by erecting barricades and traffic control signs.
  • Travels to various work locations when responding to customer service requests and enquires in the most efficient and effective manner in order to maximize the number of completed service orders on a daily basis.
  • Utilizes and operates a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, various pipe freezing equipment, associated with water distribution and wastewater collection systems and appurtenances including water meters.
  • Reads and correctly interprets field, engineering and utility drawings and ensures all work is performed in accordance with the City's Standards and Specifications
  • Ensures assigned vehicle has all required tools and other equipment as required to work effectively and efficiently including transporting materials and equipment required for various job locations.
  • Performs other duties at this wage grade level or lower such as labouring type duties, maintenance and cleaning activities when not operating assigned vehicle or equipment. Completes all required reports (e.g., Driver’s Collision/Incident Report) related to assigned duties and responsibilities.

 

Key Qualifications:

 

  • Must have a Secondary School Diploma or approved equivalent.
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance and installation of water distribution and wastewater collection services and appurtenances including water meters.
  • Experience interacting and communicating with both internal and external customers.
  • Experience operating and knowledge of various computer applications and electronic devices. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” and qualify for the City’s drivers’ permit.

  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems, conflicting situations and determine required course of action.
  • Organizational and analytical skills with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and takes ownership for assigned tasks.
  • Ability and experience in reading field, engineering and utility drawings, including interpreting drawings and specifications.
  • Must be familiar with requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations and procedures for the safe performance of his/her duties and responsibilities. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” and qualify for the City’s drivers’ permit.
  • Ability to maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
  • Must be able to work shifts/weekends and standby in accordance with Collective Agreement.
  • Ability to work overtime and call-ins as required.
  • Ability to report to various work sites in a timely and efficient manner.
